The transcript below shows Francis Dore aged 25, living with his wife, Rebecca and their young daughter in Somers Town, in North West London. At the time of the 1841 census the area was underging significant change - from what had been fields, market gardens and brickworks in the mid-eighteenth century was rapidly developed to provide housing for the large transient population of labourers required for the construction in the 1830s of the railways into Euston, St Pancras and King's Cross. It is estimated in the 1840's that approximately twelve thousands people lived in Somers Towm.
