The transcript below shows William Bridge aged thirty-five, his wife Mary Bridge (nee Trew) aged thirty-seven and his daughter Eleanor living in Chipping Hill, Witham, mid-way between Chelmsford and Colchester in Essex. By the time of the 1841 census many of the old manufacturing activities, such as the cloth industry had virtually disappeared leaving farming and some light industrial activities as the main occupations.
